About the Rosendahl mif 4
The Rosendahl mif 4 is a professional MIDI timecode interface combining an integrated USB-MIDI interface, balanced LTC in and out, and a video sync reference input. It converts between LTC (SMPTE) timecode, MTC, and USB MIDI timecode in any direction, making it well suited to digital audio workstations and lighting or show control software that rely on MTC synchronisation. Rosendahl sync algorithms suppress timecode jitter and drop-outs. Frame rates of 24, 25 and 30 FPS are automatically detected, as is SMPTE Drop Frame, and PAL, NTSC and HD tri-level sync formats are recognised and displayed. A built-in timecode generator can be started manually or via MMC MIDI machine control commands, and the display shows timecode, SMPTE user bits and calibration data. Two 1U rack brackets for 19-inch mounting are included, and setup software is available for Windows and Mac OSX.
Rosendahl mif 4 — buyer FAQs
What does the Rosendahl mif 4 actually do?
The Rosendahl mif 4 converts timecode between LTC (SMPTE), MTC (MIDI timecode) and USB MIDI timecode in any direction. It accepts a timecode source via LTC input, MIDI input, USB or its own internal generator, then simultaneously outputs the converted formats. This makes it useful for synchronising digital audio workstations and lighting or show control software that depend on MTC for lock.
Which timecode frame rates and video sync formats does the mif 4 support?
The mif 4 automatically detects and displays 24, 25 and 30 frames per second, including SMPTE Drop Frame, via four dedicated FPS LEDs. For video sync reference it recognises PAL (576i) and NTSC (480i) as well as HD tri-level sync formats including 720p, 1080i and 1080p, displaying the detected format and its frame rate on the built-in screen.
Who makes the mif 4 and where does it fit in the Rosendahl range?
The mif 4 is made by Rosendahl, a brand focused on professional synchronisation and timecode interfacing for studio and production environments. The mif 4 sits within that specialisation as a dedicated MIDI timecode interface, combining LTC conversion, USB-MIDI integration and video sync reference in a single unit designed for rack or desktop use.
What is typically included with a used second-hand Rosendahl mif 4?
The mif 4 ships from new with two 1U brackets for mounting in a standard 19-inch rack, so used units may include these. Setup software (mif4 setup 2.1) is available for both Windows and Mac OSX. When buying used, check that the display, all input and output connections, and frame rate detection are functioning correctly. Listings on this page carry a 21-day warranty covering major functional faults; the buying guide at 10kused.com/used-av-equipment-guide/ has full details.
What drives the price of a used mif 4?
Used mif 4 pricing varies with overall condition, whether the rack brackets are present, and the firmware version installed. Units showing cosmetic wear but full electrical function typically sit lower than cleaner examples.
