ADB HISTORY

Adrien De Backer founded the company in Belgium in 1920. ADB applied the rheostats and later on the Rheotor, variable transformers to the dimming of light in theatres, music halls and cinemas. The company  produced the first light dimmer for the Malines City theatre in Belgium. This equipment served for over forty years.

It operated as a family owned business until 1987, when the SIEMENS Group acquired the company.

At that time ADB had already pioneered some of the key technologies used in stage & studio lighting. Among these, the digital dimmers, memory control systems, condenser optics for theatre spotlights. It was strongly established as a leading manufacturer with a capillary sales organization consisting of subsidiaries and independent distributors.

In 2002, a group of private and institutional investers took over the whole ADB-TTV Group.

2016 is instead the year of the acquisition by Clay Paky SpA, the Italian manufacturer of automated luminaires that is part of the OSRAM group.

Following these changes, today ADB is a much stronger lighting brand, with lean and agile operations, a unique application know-how, unparalleled strengths in product developments and the financial and organization back up of a powerful and multinational group such as OSRAM.
