The History of ARRI in a Century of Cinema
On September 12, 1917, August Arnold and Robert Richter founded ARRI in a small shop in Munich. Their first products were movie lights and printing machines. One hundred years later, the company they started is still located at the same address, but now, needless to say, much larger.
The company has grown to a team of 1,500, probably some of whom are third-generation employees, in other words a family concern. And the adventure continues. If there is one comprehensive explanation for ARRI’s longevity, it is their foresight and acumen to listen to customers, friends and colleagues.
In 1983 ARRI GB opened in the UK, under Derrick Ross and Paul Wild. And here they created the first dedicated marketing and sales team for the lighting products, alongside camera sales. Furthermore they added a rental business, allowing the introducion of new products to the market. ARRI Rental UK remains a key hub to this day.
